Swiss watch brand Rado's latest design collaboration takes us into the style of the future.
Flowing forms, innovative high-tech ceramic material and bold colours that are hard to forget. The Rado True Square Tej Chauhan. Award-winning British industrial designer Tej Chauhan's emotive and distinctive vision meets the pioneering design of Rado.
Innovative high-tech ceramic and bold colours. The Rado True Square Tej Chauhan perfectly embodies pop culture's stunning vision of the future.
Rado has always looked to the future. It is a brand that walks with the future. Artists, filmmakers, architects and other creative designers have often attempted to define the beauty of the future by creating futuristic pieces. Regardless of what the future actually brings, many of these surreal, colorful and revolutionary designs have already achieved cult status.
For this collaboration, the timeless vision of futurism was the inspiration for the design, which ranges from pop culture such as film to typography and color theory. Rado was the ideal partner, especially for Tej Chauhan, who brings his own personal interpretation of the "near future."
"We strategically use form, color and materials to bring joy to people. Using these, or their contrasts as a common ground, made the collaboration with Rado a completely natural process."
The foundation was Rado's groundbreaking design, the True Square. This is the first square watch made from solid high-tech ceramic, and its flowing form is created using injection molding. The matte yellow high-tech ceramic case, showcasing the unique texture of the high-quality material, is combined with polished dark gray PVD-coated stainless steel, sapphire crystal, and special engraving. This is complemented by a yellow cushion-shaped leather element, secured by a high-tech ceramic connector. A dark gray PVD-coated stainless steel expansion buckle completes the composition.
The matte black dial with silver-colored concentric circles features contrasting hands extending from the center. The minute and hour hands are painted white, while the seconds hand is painted neon red. They are powered by Rado's latest automatic calibre. An aperture at 3 o'clock displays the date with typography specially designed for Tej Chauhan. Uniquely, the blue indexes between 9 and 12 o'clock indicate the time of day when activities begin: in the office in the morning and outdoors in the evening. The faceted sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective AR coating on the inside offers a clear view into the interior and is a striking design element on its own.
At Rado, we combine the unique ideas of contemporary designers with our own creativity and innovation. The new True Square Tej Chauhan is a perfect example of this relentless passion. We are thrilled to be able to share this ambitious vision of the future with the world.
To celebrate the launch, Isetan Shinjuku is running a promotion until May 11th.
