Photographer Nobuyoshi Araki's solo exhibition "Inka" (Insult Summer) will be held at art Space AM in Shibuya from August 3rd to October 11th. This comprehensive exhibition will feature Araki's latest work, "2015.8.15," a newly commissioned work titled "KIMONO: KaoRi," as well as installation works.
"2015.8.15" is the latest in a series of photographs Araki, who spent his childhood amid the postwar hustle and bustle, takes annual photos in front of the Imperial Palace on August 15th, the anniversary of the end of the war. This time, Araki took the plunge ahead of this year's August 15th, attempting to capture "the anniversary of the end of the war in the near future."
Also exhibited at the same time is "KIMONO: KaoRi," the latest in a collaboration series with KaoRi that has been ongoing for over a decade. The latest photographs capture KaoRi in a kimono that is increasingly striking in its splendor.
Other works on display include "Painting Photo," in which instant film is painted with acrylic paint; "Hangeshi," which continues Araki's previous work "Barrier," in which two cut pieces are joined together; and "EGG" and "FLOWER," which are made up of instant film works. Half of these approximately 1,000 pieces of instant film will be remade in various ways by Araki himself.
