From July 23rd to August 16th, Gekkoso Art Supplies will be hosting the "Iroiro Oekaki Summer Festival" at the PASS THE BATON GALLERY in Omotesando Hills, Tokyo. Gekkoso Art Supplies, celebrating its 100th anniversary, manufactures and sells all of its original products. In 1940, the store discovered the manufacturing technique for cobalt blue, creating the first 1000% domestically produced paint. In 1971, they invented the new color cobalt violet pink, which won first place at the World Oil Paint Competition. This year's "Iroiro Oekaki Summer Festival" drawing event allows visitors to have fun using paints and crayons to their heart's content. Visitors can also have their newly drawn drawings printed on everyday items on the spot. Visitors can freely draw a picture using drawing paper, paints, brushes, crayons, and other materials that Gekkoso can no longer sell. The finished design can then be printed on a T-shirt or tote bag on the spot, creating a one-of-a-kind, original item. Also available during the event are second-hand and deadstock art supplies, as well as Gekkoso's recommended drawing picnic set. Gekkoso's original scrapwood frames, made from recycled wood, are also available, and a service will be offered to frame drawings made in the gallery space. On July 25, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, singer and mother of two, Cana, will host a live performance and talk session featuring songs named after colors. Visitors can also draw scenes from Cana's live performance. A closing event is scheduled for August 15.
