Female android "Jihira Aiko" introduces "future-type gifts" at Shinjuku Isetan

Jul 23, 2015

From July 22nd to 28th, Isetan Shinjuku is teaming up with ifs Future Research Institute to host an event showcasing "future-style gifts" at The Stage on the first floor of the main building. At the venue, the female android "Chihira Aiko," which made a splash when it was unveiled at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi in April of this year, will be showcasing gift items. (Chihira Aiko will be available until the 24th.) In addition to the traditional concept of "material gifts," the event will also focus on "experiences" through experiences, showcasing gifts that will "touch the heart" of both the giver and the recipient. The three themes are "Gift a thrilling tradition," "Gift an enchanting innovation," and "Gift a smile-filled everyday life." For the "Gift a thrilling tradition" event, Japanese confectionery maker Toraya and ifs Future Research Institute collaborated to create "future yokan." "SUEHIROGARI" (8 pieces, 3,800 yen including tax) is a unique, bite-sized dried yokan (sweet bean paste) that spreads out like a fan, creating a unique design. It has two layers, each with a different color on the front and back, and is available in two varieties: red and white, and green and black. The semicircular yokan on a skewer makes it easy for a group to share, making it a futuristic gift that can be enjoyed at a stand-up summer party. Jewelry brand CHIMASKI is introducing an accessory kit (13,500 yen) that, when opened, reveals white sand reminiscent of the beach and even pearl jewelry inside a seashell. Other items on offer include a chopstick rest (2,000 yen) featuring a collaboration between Kutani ware and Ultraman, and a mosquito coil (2,000 yen) featuring a collaboration between Mina Perhonen and Kincho's spiral design. In the "Gift a Loveable Innovation" campaign, music lover and radio DJ Peter Barakan will converse with customers to find the perfect music for them and select 10 songs. The selected vinyl recordings will then be played on a high-performance laser turntable and burned onto a CD, creating an "Haute Couture CD"—a luxurious gift. In the "Gift a Smile Every Day" campaign, an annual pass (¥12,000 for two, tax included) will be available, granting unlimited access to the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, the Tokyo City View observation deck on the 52nd floor, and the Sky Deck on the rooftop. This is an inspiring gift that allows you to enjoy "365 days of sunsets." Also featured is the "Bobby Dazzler" doll series, created by a British duo. These plush toys, designed to be treasured, are sold as a set of two for ¥30,000.
