Aquavit, a modern Nordic restaurant in Aoyama, Tokyo, will be holding a "Crayfish Fair" in its bar lounge from August 15th to 31st. It's said that eating crayfish has been a tradition in Scandinavia since the 16th century, and crayfish caught in central Sweden, known as "black gold," were exported to high-end restaurants overseas as a luxury food. At the time, they were a luxury food enjoyed only by royalty, but in the 20th century, they became popular among ordinary citizens. To prevent overfishing, crayfish fishing was banned for approximately two months starting August 8th. Nowadays, from the opening of the fishing ban through the end of September, many people gather with friends for crayfish parties known as "KRAFTSKIVA."
The restaurant is offering a plan (5,000 yen) limited to 20 meals per day, where you can enjoy salt-boiled crayfish, a Swedish summer staple, with alcohol such as the Nordic distilled spirit Aquavit, wine, beer, and cocktails. You can enjoy a variety of Nordic flavors, including marinated salmon and herring, shrimp salad, and salmon sandwiches.
