As a special edition of "Today's Item," a series introducing products recommended by our editors every day, we are introducing "Tokyo souvenirs" selected by people in the fashion and beauty industry until July 31st. This is the season when many people bring gifts for seasonal greetings or when returning home. If you're having trouble deciding what to bring, check out this list of top products recommended by connoisseurs.
Today's recommendation is Chiyochoco from Sweets & Deli, a pastry shop located on the first basement floor of the Palace Hotel Tokyo, recommended by Tomomi Sakaguchi, PR specialist at HiRAO INC, a global agency and PR company that handles a wide range of fields including fashion and art. "The moment you open the box, it's a beautiful, artistic masterpiece that's sure to put a smile on your face. I recommend the traditional Japanese beauty and elegant taste created by our chocolatier," says Sakaguchi. Chiyochoco is a delicate chocolate bar that resembles chiyogami paper, with traditional Japanese patterns seen on Edo chiyogami paper, kimonos, and yukatas printed on a thin, delicate chocolate bar. Each Chiyochoco is carefully handcrafted by Palace Hotel's in-house chocolatier, and each one has its own distinct personality, thanks to the precise amount of cacao blended. Each piece is given a name that evokes a different season in Japan, exuding artistic sophistication: "Sasaba" (Bamboo Leaf) with its exquisite blend of bitter cacao and sweet vanilla, "Sakura" (Sakura) with its creamy caramel flavor, "Kaede" (Maple) with its floral aroma, and "Fuji" (Fuji) which highlights the mellow sweetness of dried fruit.
The assortment comes in a tiered box and is wrapped in washi paper reminiscent of a kimono wrapping, so Sakaguchi says, "This is a product that will be very popular not only with Japanese people but also with foreigners."
