Maserati's first hybrid model is here! The Ghibli Hybrid will be available in Japan from early June.

Apr 16, 2021
Maserati has announced the prices in Japan for its MY21 models, including the Ghibli Hybrid, Maserati's first hybrid model, the Ghibli Trofeo with a new V8 Trofeo engine, and the Quattroporte Trofeo.
The Ghibli has a refreshed appearance and a significantly upgraded multimedia system. The MY21 Ghibli features a new front grille and new boomerang-shaped rear light clusters inspired by the 3200GT and Alfieri designed by Giugiaro, giving the Ghibli a more refined look.
The MY21 model will see the introduction of Maserati's first hybrid model, the Ghibli Hybrid. Maserati is developing its hybrid engines to be in perfect harmony with Maserati's DNA. We have chosen a hybrid solution that focuses on improving performance while also improving fuel efficiency. This innovative powertrain is the result of research and development by engineers at the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena, combining a four-cylinder, turbocharged, 2.0-liter internal combustion engine with a 48-volt alternator, e-booster and battery. This solution is unique in its segment and marks the beginning of a new generation of powertrains that will satisfy drivers in terms of performance, efficiency and driving pleasure.

Following the launch of the Levante Trofeo, the most extreme and powerful SUV ever made in 2018, the Ghibli and Quattroporte are now also available with Trofeo engines, completing a collection that embodies the pinnacle of performance, sportiness and luxury. At the heart of the Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo is a 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine that develops 580 hp at 6,250 rpm and 730 Nm of torque. The Ghibli Trofeo will be Maserati's fastest sedan ever, with a top speed of 326 km/h, surpassing the Levante Trofeo's 302 km/h.

Ghibli Hybrid

Design
The Ghibli Hybrid features a completely redesigned exterior and interior, making it instantly recognizable. The new styling, created by Maserati's Centro Stile (Design Center), is characterized by a blue color, a symbol of cleanliness.

On the exterior, blue accents are found on the traditional Maserati triple side air vents, brake calipers, and the Saetta logo on the C-pillar. These same blue accents are also found in the interior seat stitching, and the headrests feature a blue embroidered trident logo. Similar design elements are found on the door panels and dashboard, lending the interior a light and modern feel.

The new front grille also features a redesigned design with double-bladed spokes in the shape of a tuning fork. The rear taillights feature a boomerang shape inspired by Giorgetto Giugiaro's legendary 3200GT and Alfieri.

Mild Hybrid
In perfect harmony with Maserati's DNA, Maserati is developing a hybrid engine. The company has opted for a hybrid solution that focuses on improving performance while also improving fuel efficiency.

Mounting the battery at the rear also ensures optimal weight distribution. It's also approximately 80 kg lighter than the previous diesel model.

Developing a maximum power output of 330 hp and 450 Nm of torque from just 1,500 rpm, the new Ghibli Hybrid boasts impressive performance: a top speed of 255 km/h and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.7 seconds.

Furthermore, by focusing on the fluid dynamics of the exhaust gases and adjusting the resonator, Maserati's distinctive engine sound is produced without the need for amplification.

Infotainment System

The frameless design has also increased the size from 8.4 inches to 10.1 inches. A new instrument panel with digital displays and new graphics has also been introduced.

Electrification at Maserati

The new Ghibli Hybrid is the first step in a plan that will lead to the electrification of all new Maserati models in the future. Maserati's first 100% electric vehicles will be the next-generation GranTurismo and GranCabrio.

Trofeo Collection

Maserati is reinterpreting its sedan with the introduction of a V8 engine. At the heart of the Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo is a 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo engine producing 580 hp at 6,250 rpm and 730 Nm of torque.

Already fully unveiled in the Levante Trofeo, this engine is built exclusively for Maserati at the Ferrari factory in Maranello and has been refined and developed to deliver the same performance in a front-engine, rear-drive sedan.

This marks the first time a V8 engine has been used in a Ghibli, although a 530 hp V8 was already used in the Quattroporte GTS. With this expansion, the new Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante ranges will all be equipped with a 580 hp V8, all in compliance with fuel economy and EU emissions regulations.

The Ghibli Trofeo will be the fastest Maserati sedan ever, with a top speed of 326 km/h, surpassing the Levante Trofeo's 302 km/h top speed. Like the Levante Trofeo, the new Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo are equipped with the Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) system, with a special setup to enhance driving dynamics, improve active safety, and ensure even more thrilling performance. The new Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo also feature the Corsa button, which allows for a sportier driving style. Like the Levante Trofeo, the new Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo also feature Launch Control, which unleashes the engine's full power, delivering breathtaking performance and an authentic Maserati driving experience. In addition to the signature Maserati engine sound, the Trofeo collection's looks are further enhanced by special styling cues that characterize its high-performance models. The dual-bar front grille in black piano finish and the front air duct trim and rear extractor in carbon fiber finish create a more aggressive look. A common exterior feature common to the Trofeo collection are the red details on the side air vent frames and the Saetta logo on the C-pillar. The rear design, like other MY21 Ghibli models, features new light shapes and a boomerang-like design inspired by the 3200GT and Alfieri concept cars. The Ghibli Trofeo also features a redesigned hood, featuring two aggressive air ducts for improved cooling, similar to the Levante Trofeo. The Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo are fitted with 21-inch Orione wheels. The Levante Trofeo is available with 22-inch Orione wheels. The Trofeo's aggressive design continues in the interior, where a new onboard panel displays a dedicated interface when the ignition is turned on, and the Trofeo name is embroidered on the headrests. The interior is also upholstered in the finest full-grain Pieno Fiore natural leather.
