Rei Kawakubo's COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS held its Spring/Summer 2016 show in a rented event space near the Opéra Garnier. The show showcased creations based on the house's signature free-spirited approach, deliberately subverting the traditional notion of tailoring in order to reaffirm its value. Beautifully tailored jackets featured slit sleeves and zigzag hems. However, everything was carefully considered and the fresh silhouettes were beautiful to look at. Trench-style and blouson-style chemises, made from the same fabric as the shirts worn underneath, offered a soft contrast to the provocative jackets, creating a contrast between hard and soft. While many fashion houses this season eschewed eye-catching designs and opted for simple silhouettes, Kawakubo's creations were characteristic of the Paris Collection, demonstrating a rare presence that maintained a unique style.
