Chitose Abe's sacai collection was presented at the Commercial Exchange in Les Halles. The theme was "Hybrid Mash-Up." Amidst a background music of rapid-fire samples of disco and house classics, the collection featured a series of pieces that blurred boundaries, blending together elements of different countries, eras, materials, and genders. Checked suits were paired with leis and scrunchie-like necklaces, and pants featuring Peruvian textiles were paired with military-inspired blousons. The shoes were a collaboration with Hender Scheme. T-shirts bearing the logo of Paradise Garage, a legendary Manhattan club from the 1970s and 1980s, were also featured. Larry Levan, the main DJ at the time, mixed a variety of music genres—new wave, rock, pop, hip-hop, disco—to thrill a diverse audience, making the club a truly hybrid venue. This free-spirited atmosphere was reflected in the collection, showcasing a chaotic yet beautifully layered look that was characteristic of Sacai.
By the way, a portion of the sales from T-shirts with the Paradise Garage logo will be donated to GMHC (Gay Men's Health Crisis).
