The Andaz Tokyo lobby is illuminated by a Christmas tree. This year, the "Panoramic Christmas Tree" was created in collaboration with Irish photographer and artist Suzanne Mooney.
Suzanne Mooney is an Irish photographer whose life's work focuses on visual arts landscapes. In 2015, she was selected from 3,500 applicants for the Aesthetica Art Prize, an international competition sponsored by art magazine Aesthetica. She has produced and exhibited her work in Japan, Ireland, Spain, and Korea.
The "Panoramic Christmas Tree" was born when Suzanne was captivated by the hotel's stylish interior and the view of Tokyo from the hotel during her first visit to the Andaz Tokyo. The tree was created by assembling acrylic panels onto which several photographs taken from the Andaz Tokyo were projected using UV direct printing, creating a three-dimensional shape. The tree's unique structure allows it to appear 3D from some angles, but not from others. Additionally, lights illuminating the transparent acrylic panels create a different look depending on where guests are standing.
Suzanne said of the Christmas tree, "We hope that guests passing through the lobby and those who frequently visit the lobby will enjoy the variety of looks that can be seen from all angles and find their favorite angle."
