Kishin Shinoyama's sculptures through the viewfinder. Photo exhibition held at the Hakone Open-Air Museum

Aug 6, 2016

Photographer Kishin Shinoyama's "Kishin Shinoyama Photo Exhibition: KISHIN meets ART" will be held at the Hakone Open-Air Museum's Main Gallery and Ryokukage Gallery from September 17 to April 5, 2017. Kishin Shinoyama has sparked controversy with his prolific body of work, ranging from nudes and cityscapes to portraits of celebrities. This exhibition, themed "art," will explore his photographic world in two venues: the Main Gallery and Ryokukage Gallery. The Main Gallery will feature a selection of photographs of outdoor sculptures from the museum's collection, including those by Henry Moore, Carl Milles, and Giuliano Vangi. The Ryokukage Gallery will feature dynamic, scaled photographs of artists with whom he has had close ties, including Balthus, Taro Okamoto, Yayoi Kusama, and Yasumasa Morimura, as well as their workspaces, centered around photographs taken using Shinoyama's unique "Sinorama" technique, which combines multiple cameras. This is an opportunity to experience "KISHIN meets ART," a moment that has rarely been made public until now, capturing the encounter between Shinoyama and art.
