Conquering men starts with eye makeup! Maybelline conducts survey on men's awareness of women's makeup

Jun 2, 2014
Maybelline New York conducted a nationwide survey on women's makeup targeting 1,200 male workers and students aged 15 to 49. The results showed that men pay particular attention to women's eye makeup.

Approximately 60% of respondents answered that there are certain points they pay particular attention to in women's makeup. Those who answered there are certain points they pay particular attention to were then asked to choose the "point of a woman's makeup that they pay particular attention to on a date." The most common answer was "eyes (eye makeup, etc.)" at 37%, followed by "skin" at 27.4%, and third place was "mouth" at 24.7%.

The survey also looked at "occasions in which eye makeup is of concern" by occupation. The survey revealed that men in sales positions pay particular attention to eye makeup for business situations, men in planning positions pay particular attention to eye makeup for dates, and men in blue collar positions pay particular attention to eye makeup for outings and group dates. From meeting someone to going on a date, focusing on eye makeup appropriate to the job and the occasion seems to be the quickest way to become popular. Furthermore, men in office positions generally pay the highest attention to eye makeup in all occasions.

Next, we asked men what kind of eye makeup they would like to see in a business setting and a date. For business settings, 36.3% of respondents answered "natural eye makeup," by far the most popular, while for dates, 22.4% chose "cute eye makeup." Considering the time, place, and occasion and applying makeup appropriate to the situation seems to be important for winning men over.

On the other hand, when asked about "unfortunate makeup on dates," 22.9% answered "too much." Next came "the color is too flashy" (21.8%) and "it looks artificial" (13.8%). Also, considering that "it's not putting in enough effort" (12.7%) ranked fourth, it seems that the key to eye makeup is to strike a balance between not putting in too much effort and not putting in too much effort.

Finally, we surveyed men by age group about their favorite eye makeup finishes. For men in their 20s, "elegant natural lines" came in first with 32.9%, while for men in their 30s, "droopy eye lines" came in first with 37.9%.

In addition, the Maybelline New York official website is currently running a "Dohamaria Eye Makeup Diagnosis," where you can answer four questions to find out the perfect eyeliner for your day's plans.
