Editions Astier de Villatte, a publishing house established this year by Astier de Villatte, the only ceramic manufacturer in Paris, has published the Japanese version of its first book, "My Paris Life."
Founded by two designers, Yvan Pericoli and Benoît Astier de Villatte, Astier de Villatte is currently the only handmade ceramic manufacturer in Paris. In its workshop, which preserves the craftsmanship of 18th-century Paris, the company produces ceramics, titanium cutlery, and hand-blown glass made from high-quality, heat-resistant materials. In addition to producing fragrance products and stationery such as notebooks, the company has also launched a new letterpress publishing company.
Editions Astier de Villatte's first book, "My Paris Life," is a Paris guidebook characterized by its objet d'art beauty. With its three-sided gold binding and a format reminiscent of a novel, it truly embodies the taste of Paris, like a work of art. As the title suggests, the book features only the uniquely Parisian places Yvan and Benoit feel truly at home in, including their personal favorites. From famous establishments to secret hideaways, the book offers fascinating, detailed descriptions of their atmosphere.
Following its release in January and the English version in October, the Japanese version is now complete. Just like the original Japanese version, which was committed to letterpress printing, a method that was on the brink of extinction, the Japanese version also uses letterpress printing. Dai Nippon Printing, celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, is offering the letterpress printing techniques it has carefully inherited and preserved throughout its long history for the first time in 13 years. The typeface chosen is "Shueitai," a typeface that Dai Nippon Printing has independently developed and updated for over 100 years. Each character was typeset by hand by Japanese artisans.
