Held an optical illusion exhibition attracting 750,000 visitors. Many famous works by artists such as Magritte and Arcimboldo.

Jun 6, 2014

The sequel to the "Trompe l'oeil" exhibition, held in 2009 at three venues in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Kobe, which attracted a total of 750,000 visitors, "Bunkamura 25th Anniversary Special Project: The Evolution of Trompe l'oeil," will open August 9th at Bunkamura in Shibuya, Tokyo.

This time, the exhibition will focus on contemporary art, selecting visually interesting and highly artistic works. The exhibition will unravel the mechanisms behind such categories as "Trompe l'oeil," which fundamentally questions reality; "Shadow, Silhouette & Mirror Image," which features shadows and mirrors as motifs that connect fictional space with the real world; "Op Illusion," which focuses on abstract paintings that create optical illusions through the geometric arrangement of colors and shapes; "Anamorphosis," which distorts images by using perspective in reverse, revealing the true image when viewed from a certain vantage point; and "Anamorphosis Metamorphosis," which features metamorphosis, which transforms images into something different depending on distance or perspective.

Works on display include "The Librarian" by court painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo, "The Red Model" by Rene Magritte, "BATTOR" by Victor Vasarely, and "Copyright Original Art" by Miran Fukuda, among many other enjoyable works.
