Frederic Cassel releases Galette des Rois with a "sculptural" motif of fève

Dec 25, 2016

Frederic Cassel will be selling three new "Galette des Rois" from December 26th to January 9th.

Galette des Rois is a pastry eaten to celebrate the Christian festival of Epiphany, which takes place on January 6th. The round pastry is filled with almond cream and a ceramic figurine called a fève (broad bean). In France, the family cuts it up and eats it together, and it is said that whoever finds the fève will have good luck for the year.

At Frederic Cassel, they are offering a Galette des Rois (Traditionelle/2,000 yen) made with fragrantly baked feitage (puff pastry) filled with rich almond cream and almonds instead of fèves. If you find an almond, you will receive a fève, just like in France. The fève changes every year, but this year there will be five types of fève inspired by sculptures by sculptor François-Xavier Lalanne. In addition to the regular Galette des Rois, there will also be a limited edition Galette des Rois called "Mille-feuille" (1,400 yen). Crème millefeuille is sandwiched between puff pastry and topped with rum jelly, a favorite of François-Xavier Lalanne. "Caramel Pomme" (2,200 yen) made with caramel will also be available.
