The "Sculptor Raku Masaomi" exhibition, featuring stone sculptor Raku Masaomi, will be held from January 2 to 17, 2017, at the "Eki" Kyoto Museum of Art on the 7th floor of JR Kyoto Isetan in the Kyoto Station Building. Born as the second son of Raku Kichizaemon, the 15th generation head of the Raku family, a tea bowl maker with a history spanning over 450 years in Kyoto, Raku Masaomi currently works as a stone sculptor, creating abstract works using black granite (Zimbabwe Black from Africa) with a unique sensibility. The exhibition will feature approximately 25 pieces, from past works to new works, including his first work using marble. True to Raku's sculptural philosophy of "expression in stone, and nature with expression," visitors can enjoy the mystical world he creates without dominating. In addition, gallery talks featuring Raku himself will be held on January 7, 2017, from 2:00 PM, and on January 8, 2017, from 11:00 AM, for 30 minutes each.
