Paul Smith's world-class flagship store opens in Roppongi

Paul Smith's flagship store, one of the largest in the world, opened in Roppongi on April 29th. Located across from Tokyo Midtown and next to Barneys New York, which will open in the fall, the new store, located on Gaien Higashi-dori Street, spans a single floor of 500 sq. m (150 tsubo). Offering a full line of men's and women's fashion, it is the third full-line Paul Smith store in Japan, following the Paul Smith Space in Omotesando (three-story, 570 sq. m) and the Marunouchi store (two-story, 450 sq. m). This will be the largest single-floor store in Japan. The central floor of the store features a steel cube-shaped space known as the 3x3, where pop-up events are held seasonally. At the opening, limited-edition items, such as the R logo T-shirt, exclusive to the Roppongi store, will be available. The cube is the same size as the one Paul Smith used when he first opened his store in Nottingham, England, in 1970. Previously, it was used as a pop-up at London's Dover Street Market, but this is the first time it has been installed in a Paul Smith store. The store features a 23-meter art wall, the largest in the flagship store, displaying 272 framed pieces including paintings, posters, records, and postcards selected by Paul Smith himself. An assemblage of bicycle tire tubes, likely made by Paul himself, is also on display. The store's fixtures include mid-century modern chairs collected by Paul Smith himself, and the single-piece table fixtures are found only in the London Albemarle Street store and the Roppongi store. The color blocks on the wall of the men's tailored zone at the back of the store are made from cut British wallpaper, and collage tiles by Dutch designer Isabelle Smeets are embedded in the entrance floor.
