Founded in 1969 in San Francisco, USA as a select shop that mainly handled denim, Gap has continued to offer modern American casual style as a global casual fashion brand.
This spring, Gap participated in the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's "Jeans Redesign" challenge and, following the guidelines set out by the foundation, created the most sustainable denim collection in Gap's history. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is transforming the fashion industry through circular economy design and the creation of sustainable, regenerated denim that can be used for longer.
"THE JEANS REDESIGN" is available at select Gap stores nationwide and on the Gap online store (https://www.gap.co.jp/), creating solutions to help create a world where clothing does not become waste.
This sustainable denim, created in accordance with the "Make Fashion Circular" guidelines, aims to ensure the long-term use of denim, recycling, and manufacturing processes that minimize negative impacts on the environment and textile factories. It contributes to a more sustainable society by incorporating "100% natural fibers," water-saving technology "Washwell™," and "removable hardware."
"THE JEANS REDESIGN" features five denim items. The lineup includes the Trucker Jacket with its striking oversized fit and rinsed color, the Sailor Trousers with work details, the Smock Dress that fits any figure, the Boyfriend Jeans with a relaxed, straight silhouette, and the '80s-inspired Chore Jacket. Not only are these the most sustainable products in Gap's history, but they also offer an expanded sizing range for both men and women of all ages and body types.
One of the founding principles of the first Gap store was "doing the right thing." This is something Gap still strives for every day. As a global brand, Gap is aware of its responsibility to the earth and will continue to make environmental commitments, including through "THE JEANS REDIESIGN."
The Sustainability of "THE JEANS REDESIGN"
- 100% natural fibers (organic cotton, recycled cotton, hemp)
- Part of Gap's Washwell program, which uses over 20% less water than traditional washing processes
- Uses chemicals that meet ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) standards
- Can be used continuously for a long time
- Removable hardware design makes it fully recyclable
