Fashion designer Stella McCartney was born on September 13, 1971, in London, England. Her father is former Beatle Paul McCartney. She began designing at age 12, and at age 15, she studied under Christian Lacroix and Edward Sexton on Savile Row. Her 1995 graduation collection from Saint Martins attracted attention by featuring model Kate Moss. In 1997, she was appointed creative director of Chloe, succeeding Karl Lagerfeld. At just 25 years old, her appointment drew mixed reviews, but ultimately contributed to the brand's rapid growth. In 2001, she founded her own brand, Stella McCartney, and made her Paris Fashion Week debut with the 2002 Spring/Summer collection. In 2005, she collaborated with Adidas to launch "Adidas by Stella McCartney," a popular line that continues to this day. She has also collaborated with H&M, Target, and LeSportsac in the past. In 2012, she was appointed creative director of the British Olympic team, designing all of the apparel for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In March of this year, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE). In 2002, she married Wallpaper magazine publisher Alasdhair Willis, and the couple have three children. She is also a passionate animal rights activist, and is known for never using fur, silk, or leather in her designs.
