Musician Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942, in Liverpool, England.
In 1957, he met John Lennon and joined The Quarry Men, the band that would become The Beatles. He became a central figure in the band, inviting his longtime friend George Harrison to join. Initially, he played guitar, but when the bassist left, he took over as bass.
He debuted as a member of The Beatles in 1962. He subsequently produced some of The Beatles' most iconic songs, including "Yesterday," "Hey Jude," and "Let It Be." He also earned acclaim for his playing not only on bass and guitar, but also on piano, synthesizers, wind instruments, and drums. After the Beatles disbanded in 1970, he performed with the band Wings and as a solo artist. In 1980, he was arrested for marijuana possession at Narita Airport, which led to the cancellation of his Japan tour, making headlines. He overcame the death of John Lennon and the disbandment of Ings, and is still active in the music industry at age 71. In 1997, he was knighted by the Queen of England. In 2002, he was awarded the Légion d'Honneur, France's highest honor. In his personal life, he married Linda McCartney in 1969 and had three children. After Linda's death, he remarried former model Heather Mills, had a daughter, but divorced. In 2011, he remarried Nancy Shevell. His second daughter, Stella, is a successful fashion designer. After working as a designer for Chloe, he now works for Stella McCartney, whose fashion label Paul McCartney is seen in the front row at her Paris shows.
