Isetan's Tartan to be relaunched in October. Commemorative event also held

Sep 18, 2013

Isetan will be relaunching its corporate tartan design on October 30th. The colors and patterns of the previous "Macmillan/Ancient" have been rearranged to create the original "Macmillan/Isetan" design. This will be featured on the store's shopping bags and in various other products. Tartan is woven in the Highlands of northern Scotland and was long used as a family crest. Today, it is an essential pattern in British traditional style, incorporated into a variety of fashions. In 1956, Isetan opened a teenager's shop at its Shinjuku store, and subsequently created a shopping bag featuring a selection of the most striking and eye-catching patterns. This design was later adopted throughout the store. In the fall of 2012, the Scottish Tartan Association awarded Isetan the "Best Use of Tartan in Packaging" Tartan Award, the first in the world to do so, in recognition of its long-standing contributions to promoting tartan in Japan. Taking advantage of the award, Isetan has woven a new, original fabric and created "Macmillan/Isetan." It has now been officially registered with the Scottish Tartan Register, which is managed by Scotland as a national entity to centralize the control of tartans around the world.

In addition, to coincide with the birth of the new tartan, the store will be holding a commemorative event, "ISETAN TARTAN: My Takarabako (tentative title)," from October 30th to November 5th at The Stage on the first floor. Special limited edition items using the new tartan from various popular brands and designers will be on sale. Fabric will be primarily from Lochcarron of Scotland, the world's largest tartan manufacturer. The event will feature special items from Scottish brands with a deep connection to tartan, such as Mackintosh, Queen & Belle, Johnstons, and Hunter, as well as bags from minä perhonen and stuffed toys from Bobby Dazzler. Other items include furniture and stationery. Smiles Laboratory is also in charge of art direction for the venue's decorations.
