Shellman Co., Ltd., which handles a wide range of watches, from antique watches and unique works by independent watchmakers to modern watches made with unique beliefs and preferences, with the concept of ``masterpieces that transcend time and trends,'' will be holding ``Selected by Shellman Arts and crafts watches and clocks,'' an event featuring art-focused timepieces, for six days from March 16th to 21st, 2021, at the event venue on the 7th floor of the main building of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store (address: 1-4-1 Nihonbashi Muromachi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo).


Event Details
This event, titled "Selected by Shellman Arts and crafts watches and clocks," will feature a selection of artistic timepieces that have been carefully selected down to the smallest detail, and are so exquisite that it is no exaggeration to call them "works of art."

Guests can enjoy masterpieces from BOVET, which creates watches using artistic techniques, as well as works by independent watchmakers who will be making their first appearance at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi, expressing their own unique sensibilities.

What is an Independent Watchmaker?
A watchmaker is a watchmaker who does not belong to a watch manufacturer or company, but rather sets up their own studio and creates their own watches. The process varies from watchmaker to watchmaker, with some working in teams to others crafting every single component themselves. Because each watchmaker performs the entire process individually, it is not uncommon for it to take more than a year to make a single wristwatch. These works (watches) rich in craftsmanship combine original designs and mechanisms not found in major manufacturers with the quality pursued through careful manufacturing, making them truly one-of-a-kind masterpieces.

The first model created by independent Russian watchmaker Anton Sukhanov is a table clock inspired by the ancient lighthouse that stood on Pharos Island in Alexandria, Egypt. The technically challenging 3D tourbillon is housed within the upper dome, and the dynamic movement of the balance wheel coated with Super-LumiNova evokes the light of a lighthouse, which is the origin of the watch's name.

This charismatic skull design by Scottish designer Fiona Kruger was inspired by the Mexican Festival of the Lost, which she experienced as a child. The hours and minutes are displayed by the hands, and a power reserve indicator is built into the skull's mouth. If Vanitas loses power, it will begin to yawn, indicating that it needs to be wound. With a 40-day power reserve, this monthly ritual gives you a moment to stop and stock up on the time you have.

The Chopin Watch was created with the full cooperation of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, a public institution of the Polish government. 10 No. 12 "Revolutionary", this model is filled with great homage to Chopin, with a ring designed to resemble music, a power reserve indicator based on a piano key motif, and words from Chopin as a composer and the year inscribed on it.
