For Autumn/Winter 2021, Paul Smith takes us on a journey through the “subculture” that has marked the beginning of his career, remixing icons of British fashion design for a new generation.

Following on from the men's show presented during Paris Fashion Week in January, the Autumn/Winter 2021 women's collection remixes and reinterprets “Paul Smith classics.”

Like the other pieces in the collection, the outerwear is inspired by the timeless style that every woman should have in her wardrobe, including an oversized mac coat, a reversible sheepskin blouson, and a refined black wool coat based on the popular opera tuxedo.

Tailoring fabrics and techniques are translated into more casual, everyday pieces with a refined edge, such as an oversized shirt in soft wool or a cropped bomber jacket made from recycled wool with a silk lining. Jacket and trouser sets combine relaxed silhouettes with smart tailored fabrics, perfectly suited to the work-from-home lifestyle of 2021. Four-button blazers and new '70s-inspired suiting are key styles this season. Available in gold, checks, and stripes, the pieces are available in a variety of colors and patterns.

As with previous Paul Smith collections, patterns, checks, and stripes are pervasive throughout the Fall/Winter 2021 collection. A modern take on paisley, a signature Paul Smith print, is reintroduced to new silhouettes on dresses, sweaters, totes, and shoulder bags. Tartan tailoring and checks evoke the two-tone look of '70s ska bands like The Specials, and are styled with different checks. Striped mohair knits have a punk-preppy vibe, and cardigans feature ethically sourced potato buttons.

The color palette features rich, wintry greens, purples, and browns, accented with zesty hues of lime, orange, and pink. Floral prints offer a soft contrast to the utilitarian toughness of military jackets and heavy boots. Paul, a pioneer in introducing floral prints to men's fashion, continues to innovate through floral motifs, whether 3D printed on leather or woven into fabrics. Additionally, familiar Paul Smith patterns are reinterpreted using new techniques, and the Painted Stripe bag series, which includes backpacks, totes, and crossbody bags, features expressive artist stripe motifs.
