Latvia is a naturally rich Nordic country, with approximately 50% of its land covered by forests and approximately 10% by thousands of lakes and wetlands. Restaurant Vincent, which is visiting Japan to showcase Latvian flavors, is one of the leading restaurants in the Nordic and Baltic countries, not only pursuing fine cuisine but also promoting slow food through local production and consumption. To coincide with Latvian Independence Day on November 18th, with the support of the Latvian Embassy, Vincent will be holding an event to promote the appeal of Latvian cuisine at four locations across Japan: Grand Hyatt Tokyo, Kaneda Naka, Hattori Nutrition College, and Isetan Shinjuku. At Isetan Shinjuku, a four-course meal packed with Latvian flavors will be available for four days from November 14th to 17th at the Kitchen Stage on the first basement floor of the main building. The course menu includes plates that embody the slow food philosophy cherished by Vincent's chef, Martins Lietins, and includes appetizers of root vegetables like beets and potatoes served with soft-boiled eggs wrapped in herbs, pumpkin and red pea soup, and a main course of grilled mackerel with horseradish. The four-course meal costs 2,601 yen (tax included). The buyer in charge of the project commented, "The appeal of Vincent is its use of vegetables that evoke the earth. Being a country with seasons that are often characterised by harsh cold, I think it inspires a sense of gratitude for the new buds, leading to delicious recipes." This promises to be a rare opportunity to savor the flavors of Vincent while reminiscing about Latvia.
