"Snowman Exhibition" held at Matsuya Ginza, displaying approximately 100 original illustrations from picture books

Nov 20, 2015

The "Snowman: From Picture Book Illustrations to Animation" exhibition will be held from December 9th to 28th at the Matsuya Ginza 8th floor Event Square.
"The Snowman" is a picture book written by British author Raymond Briggs in 1978. It has been published in over 60 countries around the world, including Japan, and was adapted into animated films in 1982 and 2012. It was also nominated for an Academy Award.
The exhibition will display 18 original drawings from every scene in the book, as well as approximately 80 production materials such as animation cels and storyboards. It will introduce the appeal of "The Snowman."
The exhibition is divided into three chapters: Chapter 1, "The World of the Snowman Picture Book," and displays 18 original drawings from every scene in the book. Chapter 2, "The World of the Snowman Animation," will display approximately 80 production materials such as animation cels and storyboards. Furthermore, Chapter 3, "The World of Briggs and the Snowman," introduces author Briggs and approximately 14 of his picture books, other than the Snowman. The epilogue, "The Snowman Memorial Zone," is a photo space where you can take commemorative photos with the Snowman and Snowdog. Commemorative photo sessions with the Snowman are scheduled to be held on the 12th, 13th, 19th, and 20th during the exhibition period. Also, the merchandise corner will sell "Snowman x Candy Bouquet" (priced from 1,620 yen to 27,000 yen). Approximately 300 other merchandise items will also be available, including pre-sale items for the exhibition, such as mugs (3,780 yen), handkerchiefs (2,160 yen), and figurines (5,940 yen). Starting November 25th, Matsuya Ginza will host a Christmas promotion, featuring a giant 6.5-meter snowman balloon in the atrium of Space of Ginza.
