The "Rinpa 400th Anniversary Festival Art Aquarium Castle - Kyoto Goldfish Dance," currently being held at Nijo Castle, a former imperial villa, will host a special event, "Blue Seafood Night," on November 17th.
The event aims to raise awareness of the concept of "blue seafood," advocated by Sailors for the Sea, an NPO dedicated to marine conservation. "Blue seafood" refers to seafood currently relatively abundant. By encouraging people to choose blue seafood in their daily diets, the event aims to protect seafood species experiencing significant declines and contribute to a sustainable marine environment. On the day, several types of oden featuring blue seafood will be available, along with limited quantities of complimentary sake from Masuda Tokubei Shoten and Sasaki Sake Brewery, both long-established Kyoto sake breweries with over 100 years of history. The ceremony, which will take place on Art Aquarium Castle's Suigi Stage, will feature Art Aquarium artist and Art Aquarium Castle general producer Hidetomo Kimura and David Rockefeller Jr., founder of Sailors for the Sea, who will hold a talk show introducing "Blue Seafood." Guests, including the mayor of Kyoto, will also be invited to a sake barrel opening ceremony. The "Rinpa 400th Anniversary Festival Art Aquarium Castle - Kyoto's Goldfish Dance" will be held in a private area of Nijo Castle, usually closed to the public, in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the Rinpa school. Comprised of art exhibitions, special performances, and a night festival, the event will promote "Art Aquarium-style Rinpa," an evolved version of Rinpa.
