Special exhibition of contemporary Rinpa artists to be held in Kyoto

Dec 16, 2014

The Kyoto Prefectural Museum of Art will hold the "Rinpa 400th Anniversary Selected New Artists Exhibition" from January 24th to February 8th.

Rinpa is a school of art founded by the artist Hon'ami Koetsu in the late Momoyama period. Its distinctive, flamboyant design has spread beyond painting to traditional crafts such as clothing, lacquerware, ceramics, folding screens, and fans, inspiring countless creators throughout the ages.

This exhibition focuses on artists who have inherited the aesthetic sense, spirit, and innovative spirit of the Rinpa school while incorporating modern sensibilities. In addition to showcasing their innovative styles, the exhibition will also feature works by award winners from the Kyoto Prefectural Exhibition of New Artists and Crafts. Additionally, a special exhibit will feature works by Kyoto-based contemporary artist Tsubaki Noboru.
