A party celebrating the release of "Alice in Wonderland 150th Anniversary Edition," whose cover was designed by Vivienne Westwood, was held on November 28th at IDOL in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo. The venue was reimagined as the world of Chapter 7 of the book, "Mad Hatter's Tea Party," a favorite of Vivienne Westwood herself. The party, held on the 28th, featured an exhibition of vintage Vivienne Westwood dresses and an archive of hats. Guests also followed the "Mad Hatter" dress code, dressing up as Lewis Carroll's "Mad Hatter" in their own Vivienne Westwood outfits, and big hats gathered on Antique Street. An in-store event based on "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" will be held at the Vivienne Westwood Aoyama store and the Vivienne Westwood Man Omotesando store from November 29th to December 6th. The in-store event will feature limited quantities of the Mountain Hat (black, burgundy, and camel, 41,000 yen each) and Pilgrim Hat (150,000 yen), both of which were also featured in the 2015-16 Autumn/Winter collection. The 150th Anniversary Edition of the book "Alice in Wonderland" (3,600 yen) will also be available at both stores. (The Pilgrim Hat will only be sold at the Vivienne Westwood Man Omotesando store.) Vivienne Westwood herself not only designed the cover of this special edition, but also contributed a preface, in which she speaks of the importance of author Lewis Carroll and this story to her. She also shares her signature message: "Children! Don't take life lightly. What you see is only what you see, but it's not the whole story." Text: Tatsuya Noda
