A special edition of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," designed by designer Vivienne Westwood, will be released to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the book. Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is published in Penguin Random House's Vintage Classics series. Vivienne is a fan of the book, and presented a show inspired by it for her Vivienne Westwood Red Label 2011-2012 Autumn/Winter collection. Vivienne Westwood designed the cover and endpapers of this issue. The cover design features a print that the brand has used since the 1980s, inspired by the diamond pattern of a harlequin, a character from the Italian improvisational comedy "Commedia dell'Arte." The pattern, which symbolizes his comical, trickster-like, and mischievous nature, matches the worldview of the story. In the preface, Vivienne spoke of her love for Lewis Carroll's work and its connection to her own social activism. She said of the title, "I think Lewis Carroll is a genius who was able to build a wonderfully intimate relationship with children. I find the Alice books very inspiring every time I read them." The book also includes original illustrations by John Tenniel, based on Through the Looking Glass and at the designer's request. The illustration depicts a little girl with her hair falling back, exactly as people imagine Alice to be.
