From November 28 to February 14, 2016, the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) will host "Promise Park: Imagining Future Patterns," an exhibition showcasing new installations and research findings from the "Promise Park Project," which explores the parks of the future. The project, which began in 2012 and spans three years, explored parks as a crossroads between various eras, cultures, and human activities, working with experts from various fields. This year, the project focused on the remains of modern industrialization in Yamaguchi Prefecture and the Kyushu region, conducting fieldwork and drone photography. Through relics and ruins that convey the image of industry rooted in the region, the project explored the "parks of the future" through the historical memories inherent in these spaces. This exhibition, the culmination of three years of fieldwork, will showcase the various insights into the "parks of the future" based on fieldwork, presented as new installations and research findings. The exhibition will feature two new installations: a video installation projected onto the floor based on footage captured by a drone, and a carpet woven on a loom in collaboration with Hosoo, a Nishijin loom in Kyoto. The carpet will ultimately measure 17 meters by 17 meters and fill the entire venue as a "park of the future." The research results exhibition will showcase the results of fieldwork-based research into parks and gardens in and around Yamaguchi Prefecture, from ancient times to the present. Additionally, a slide-based video installation called "Park Atlas" will showcase images collected through research into representative modern parks such as London's Hyde Park, New York's Central Park, and Tokyo's Ueno Park, as well as the Mundaneum Global Knowledge City initiative.
