Swiss luxury watch brand TAG Heuer has collaborated with HODINKEE, a leading website for watch information, to announce the "TAG Heuer Carrera Dart Limited Edition FOR HODINKEE." This limited edition model offers a modern twist on the mid-century classic base of the Heuer 3147N Dato45 Chronograph, a long-time favorite among enthusiasts.

Like many of TAG Heuer's most iconic chronographs, the Carrera's origins date back to 1960s motorsport. Heuer chronograph watches have been a favorite of professional racers throughout the decades, thanks to the passion for the sport of then-Heuer CEO Jack Heuer and his hands-on approach to teams and drivers. The 1960s was a time of growth and experimentation for Heuer, and the idea of a date window on a chronograph was unique. The Heuer 3147N Dato45 Chronograph was one of the first to implement this idea. Like many other overlooked Chronos of the time, this model, affectionately nicknamed the "Cyclops," featured a large, contrasting white subdial at 3 o'clock and is now a cult classic among chronograph collectors.

Hodinkee and TAG Heuer's goal was to create a watch as close to the original as possible, with its date window at 9 o'clock and "Cyclops" dial, while making the most of 21st century watchmaking techniques. It was essential to retain the charm of the original Dato 45 while expressing a design that felt timeless. This begins with the adoption of technologies such as the refined Calibre Heuer 02. To achieve the iconic date window at 9 o'clock, TAG Heuer's master watchmakers adapted their in-house chronograph to accommodate this function. This modern calibre, with its integrated mechanics and approximately 80-hour power reserve, is housed in the vintage-style TAG Heuer Carrera "glass box" case. This heavy, domed crystal recreates the look of vintage watches with their Plexiglas/mineral glass encasing. This gives the watch a vintage feel, and the crystal's edges flow into the recessed slots around the bezel. Another distinctive feature is the oscillator's 160th anniversary.

With its polished stainless steel 39mm case and black leather strap, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Dato45 Hodinkee Limited Edition strikes the perfect balance between size and legibility, and fits comfortably on the wrist. The chronograph seconds hand glides gracefully across the dial thanks to the Calibre Heuer 02's column wheel and vertical clutch, and when reset, it effortlessly returns to 12 o'clock.

The original Dato45 was advertised as "a wristwatch, a stopwatch, and a calendar," with a design that prioritized functionality and legibility at high speeds. With its pencil-style hour and minute hands, deep black dial, contrasting white subdials, and simple hour markers, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Dato45 HODINKEE Limited Edition remains faithful to the racing spirit of the original, while being refined for today's enthusiast.
