Pernod Ricard Japan will host a one-night-only event, "Pernod Absinthe Night," on October 18th at Snow Shoveling, a books and gallery in Komazawa, Tokyo. The event will feature Takuya Ito, president of Small Axe, the Ebisu bar "Bar Tram," which offers a wide selection of absinthes, and Shuichi Nakamura of Snow Shoveling, the venue for the event, as they discuss the mysterious history of Pernod Absinthe, early 18th-century art and literature, and bars and cocktails both in Japan and abroad. Cocktails using Pernod Absinthe will also be introduced, and tastings will be available. The event will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on October 18th. Participation is 500 yen per person (including cocktails). Participants must be 20 years of age or older. This event is a spin-off of Vol. 13, "Men Are Bars," of Magazine House's "Hanako FOR MEN."
Pernod Absinthe, a spirit created in France in 1805, is made from plants and is loved for its effective therapeutic properties. Its taste and aroma have also inspired artistic creations. Many artists and celebrities have enjoyed it, earning it the nickname "the green fairy." However, in 1915, for various reasons, its production, sale, and distribution were banned in most Western countries. However, in 2011, a law was enacted in France completely lifting the ban, allowing Pernod Absinthe to return to its original production method under its own name. In March 2014, it was relaunched with a design that evokes the history and tradition of absinthe.
