Manga artist Tanaka Katsuki was born on October 7, 1966, in Osaka Prefecture. His real name is Katsumi Tanaka.
Influenced by Fujio Akatsuka, he began drawing manga at a young age and created an animated work in the fifth grade of elementary school. He enrolled in the Visual Design Department of the Kyoto Seika University Faculty of Fine Arts, and while still a student, he submitted his manga "Meet Again" to the Shogakukan Newcomer Manga Award in 1985. The work received high praise from judges such as Tetsuya Chiba, and was selected as an honorable mention.
In 1988, he serialized his manga "Backlight Time" in Comic Morning, depicting the fluctuating emotions of a junior high school student. He then teamed up with fellow manga artist Seiichi Amakusa to publish "Baka Drill" in Parco's free paper, captivating manga fans with its nonsensical humor. In 2003, he published "Ossu! Tonko-chan," a comedy manga that incorporates elements of art and philosophy, and its experimental content has garnered attention in the industry.

While working as a manga artist, he also produced the full CGI animation "Frogman" in 1994. The following year he founded the production company Frog Cafe, and while producing video works such as "SUNDAY" and "Baby," he has also been involved in a variety of other activities, such as releasing indie CDs and providing sampling sound sources. Meanwhile, in the 1990s he served as the writing brain for the TV show "Waratte Iitomo," and later worked on TV shows such as "Utaban" and "Koko ga Wen Dayo Nihonjin."

In recent years, he has also exhibited many of his works at exhibitions, including "Tanaka Katsuki's Tanaka Takanao Exhibition" at Laforet Museum Harajuku in 2005 and "Tanaka Katsuki's Okamoto Taro Beam Exhibition" in 2007. In 2014, he opened a pop-up shop called "LOVE LAB with Tanaka Katsuki" at the Isetan Shinjuku store. In July 2012, he developed "Koppu no Fuchiko," a figurine that blends into the dining scene, and became a huge hit, shipping 100,000 units in a week and selling out immediately. In September 2014, he designed "Depaga-chan," the official character for Shinjuku Isetan's owned media, "ISETAN PARK net," which debuted in the same month. He is currently active in a variety of fields, including being appointed a sauna ambassador thanks to his book "Sauna-do," which describes the appeal of saunas.
