Musician Bootsy Collins was born on October 26, 1951, in Ohio, USA. His real name is William Collins, and he is Snoop Dogg's uncle. Influenced by his older brother, who was also a musician, he began playing guitar and bass as a child. In 1967, he formed the session band "The Pacemakers." In 1970, he was called in to replace James Brown's backing band when they went on strike. From then on, they became known as "The JBs" and backed Brown. After leaving The JBs in 1971, Bootsy joined George Clinton's funk band "Funkadelic" the following year. In 1974, he joined another band led by Clinton, "Parliament." It was around this time that Collins began using the auto-wah bass, which became his signature style, and he developed his own unique sound, utilizing slap playing techniques.

Meanwhile, in 1976 he formed Bootsy's Rubber Band and released his first album, "STRECHIN' OUT IN." His flashy costumes and stage performances gained him popularity, and the star-shaped sunglasses and bass guitar he used on the album would later become his trademarks. In 1978, the single "BOOTZILLA," released from his third album, "BOOTSY? PLAYER OF THE YEAR," reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart.

In the 1980s, he began releasing albums under his solo name, while also actively working as a session musician. In 1997, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of "Funkadelic" and "Parliament."
