Milan-based collection brand PORTS 1961 has created a special collection featuring Andy Warhol prints. The collection is exhibiting works and selling limited-edition items at the Roppongi select shop RESTIR until October 28th. The items will also be available online.
The collection features portraits of Andy Warhol, who was a close friend both personally and professionally, taken by New York photographer Christopher Makos. Makos's mentor, the American artist Man Ray, once photographed Rose Sélavy, a female alter-ego of Marcel Duchamp. The collection features specially designed T-shirts, sweatshirts, bags, and more, based on a print of Warhol portrayed as a woman. Also available exclusively in Japan are asymmetrical sarouel pants (50,500 yen) featuring Warhol in cutwork.
PORTS1961 is a luxury brand founded in Canada in 1961 by Japanese-American Luke Tanabe. It moved to New York in 1970 and achieved success as a brand that values elegance and proposes a modern lifestyle, with exclusive shops also opening in Europe and Asia. It currently presents its collections for both men and women at Milan Fashion Week.
This exhibition is scheduled to tour select shops in major cities around the world. This marks the first time the brand has been held in Japan, following exhibitions at Dieci Corso Como in Milan and Selfridges in London.
