The world's first ring-shaped wearable device, Ring, opens at an exclusive store in Omotesando Hills

Oct 30, 2014

On October 30th, a limited-time store will open at Omotesando Hills, where visitors can experience the world's first wearable ring-shaped device, "Ring." The device, which achieved a record-breaking $250,000 goal in just a day and a half through crowdfunding in the US, was also selected by CNN as one of the "10 Products That Will Change the World." In Japan, sales began on October 9th on Logbar's website. Wearing the Ring on your index finger and performing a predefined gesture connects it to a dedicated iOS/Android app, enabling you to connect to cloud-connected devices and services. Using this technology, you no longer have to search for the remote to turn on the TV or log in to your account to post on Twitter. The device comes in four sizes: S, M, L, and XL. However, each size has an adjustable strap, meaning there are actually eight sizes available. You can choose the size that best fits your finger.

At the Ring Japan launch announcement event held on the 29th, just before the limited-time store opening, Logbar COO Takayuki Yamazaki gave a speech, saying, "Putting the Ring on your finger will make you feel like Harry Potter. I hope that in the near future, everyone will wake up and put on the Ring to greet a new day."

Next, Logbar President and CEO Takuro Yoshida, who was in charge of the product overview and demonstration, explained the reason for the product's "one gesture" concept, saying, "By using the Ring, actions that previously took a certain amount of time can be completed in an instant."

He also explained that while the product is developed in Japan, it uses a combination of domestic and imported parts.

Furthermore, when asked about the future of the Ring, he said, "Currently, it is broadcast via an app, but I hope that in the future everything will be done with just the device itself. At the same time, as the chip (embedded inside) evolves, it is clear that it will become even smaller in the future." He also said that he would like to consider collaborating with jewelry brands in the future in order to pursue high design quality.
