This session focuses on the "screen" that dominates modern people's field of vision for long periods of time in the Internet age. It will explore how this new media environment is affecting our physical sensations and concepts, and discuss the roles that photography, video, expression, and art will play within this context.
On November 19th, photographer Takehide Niitsubo, who views images that appear on desktops as new landscapes, will appear. He will hold a talk titled "Desktop Landscape Theory" with web designer Ryoji Tanaka, who also works on artwork and curates exhibitions.
Following this, on November 26th, a talk titled "Embodiness in the Digital Age" will be held, featuring Nerhol, who creates photo-sculptures by cutting and layering sequentially captured photographs, as well as photographer Daisuke Yokota and aesthetics researcher Futoshi Hoshino. On December 3rd, "Internet Reality After" will be held, discussing reality in the Internet age. On December 9th, photographer Takashi Homma and Yuichiro Tamura, who creates road movies using Google Street View footage, will discuss the value of images archived on the Internet in a talk titled "Photography and Images in the Internet Age."
On the final day, December 17th, guests will include Koichiro Edo, founder of Niconico Gakkai Beta, and Dominic Chen of Common Sphere, who advocates for a new license for the Internet age. The topic will be "Community in the Age of Reproduction Technology." What do these two, who use the real world as a platform for expression and drive a user-driven social system, see? The two will discuss their worldview and the future of the media environment.
All sessions will be held from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Participation is 2,200 yen per session, or 9,900 yen for the full session. In addition, IMA magazine subscribers will be able to participate at special prices.
