A big-name couple and young actresses in black and white [2014 MET BALL]

Jun 5, 2014

At the Met Gala, the opening party for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute exhibition in New York, the black and white outfits that contrasted sharply with the red carpet were also striking. A-list couples, in particular, all wore monochrome. Jay-Z and Beyoncé wore Givenchy. Beyoncé exuded star power with her Philip Treacy veil and dark red lipstick. David Beckham wore Ralph Lauren. Victoria's pure white dress next to him was her own design. The solid, slim silhouette was beautiful. Charlize Theron and Sean Penn also coordinated monochrome outfits. Younger stars also chose monochrome Chanel dresses. This Chloe Grace Moritz dress featured a cute bow tie and lace tiers. Kristen Stewart, who also serves as a Chanel advertising model, had a slightly rock-inspired vibe with sparkling glitter and lace. Lily Allen's dress featured a gradient with a pale pink ribbon accent.

Also noteworthy were Givenchy Haute Couture's elegant black and white styles. Naomi Campbell wore a pure white dress. Naomi Watts also showed off a sophisticated evening style. Erykah Badu, a musician beloved by Riccardo Tisci, also looked cool in a Givenchy Haute Couture pants look.

Of course, black dresses are also perennially popular. Kirsten Dunst's Rodarte dress featured a galactic print. Georgia May Jagger's halter neck dress with sexy slits at the chest and skirt was by Thierry Mugler, and her shoes were by Sergio Rossi. Gisele Bundchen wore Balenciaga. The Olsen sisters stood out from the rest of the celebrities in their outfits, with Mary-Kate wearing vintage Gianfranco Ferre and Ashley wearing vintage Chanel.
