On March 20th, the MIKIOSAKABE 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection show was held at Bellesalle Shibuya Garden. Designer Mikio Sakabe.
The theme was "Maboroshi." The show kicked off with models, completely soaked and bare-skinned, walking briskly down the runway, appearing and then disappearing like "phantoms." The show sensuously expressed the current state of fashion, where things are encountered and then instantly digested.
The first look was blue trunks decorated with a cat patch. Following that, shirtless male models continued to wear trunks and shorts decorated with patches and ribbons, sheer organza, and other styles that exposed skin, even though it was autumn/winter.
This collection focused on styles that emphasized sexuality more directly, reducing subcultural elements. "The connection between fashion and people has become weaker. By deliberately exposing skin, I wanted fashion to feel more 'raw'," Sakabe explains, explaining the reasoning behind this.
Towards the middle of the collection, items reminiscent of school, such as sailor suits, cheerleader uniforms, and cardigans with school emblem motifs, appear. For the past few seasons, Sakabe has been proposing new styles to men with gender-blurring fashion.
"In today's world, where the economy is shifting from the West to the East, the values and image of men that people seek are changing. I think it will become a more emotional world than a logical one. Although it is for men, I incorporated feminine elements and incorporated a sense of mixing various things into my designs."
