Aveda is selling organic candles with all donations going to Madagascar to help provide clean water.

Mar 26, 2013

Organic cosmetics brand Aveda is currently selling a limited number of 100% certified organic scented candles, the Organic Spice Candle (1,302 yen).

The candle is the centerpiece of Aveda's Earth Day Month fundraising efforts, which run until April 24th. All proceeds will support community-based water projects in over 40 countries through a partnership with the Global Greengrants Fund.

Aveda has donated $20 million from candle sales over the past six years. In 2009, Earth Day Month donations provided safe drinking water to over 2,500 people in Ampasimandjeba, near Manakara on Madagascar's east coast. The project expanded to neighboring villages in 2010 and 2012. Currently, 4,000 people have access to clean water, with plans underway to expand this to 8,000.

The organic spice candles are made with 100% certified organic Madagascar cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, ylang-ylang, and more. The packaging design features artwork by children from the Malagasy village of Ampasimandjeba, where the project is set, expressing what clean water is. Available at Aveda shops in Minami-Aoyama, Shinjuku Mylord Mosaic Street, and Esola Ikebukuro, as well as Aveda network salons nationwide.

Aveda, headquartered in Minnesota, USA, offers a full range of lifestyle items, including hair and body care made with naturally derived ingredients. They have long been involved in social and environmental activities, including efforts to promote early detection of breast cancer and the abolition of animal testing.
