Starting with the December 2012 batch, LUSH, a handmade cosmetics shop, has been gradually switching to fair trade sourcing for all of the cocoa butter used in its products.
By directly purchasing the cocoa beans used in its moisturizers, body creams, massage bars, lip balms, and other products at fair prices, the brand aims to address child labor issues in producing countries. It also selects organically grown cocoa beans and is simultaneously working to minimize environmental impact in producing countries such as Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica.
To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the launch of its body cream "Charity Pot," LUSH is holding a "My Shop Charity" event from January 1st to 31st this year. Proceeds will be donated to organizations featured in each shop, including the Kamonohashi Project, an NPO that aims to eliminate child trafficking in Asia; Childline Musashino, a telephone counseling service for children; and the Hearing Dog Association.
As an ethical company, Lush plans to continue to address social and environmental issues.
