Event Date:2021.02.03-02.18
Jan 25, 2021

Isetan Shinjuku will be hosting its first pop-up event with branding director Hisako Namekata. The event will feature an exhibition and sale of exquisite regional items, based on the theme of "time," including items that have been passed down through generations and items that have lain untouched for a long time, which Namekata encountered on her travels around Japan. "Sustainability" has been gaining global attention in recent years, and Namekata will interpret this concept based on Japan's unique culture and perspective, passed down since ancient times, to provide hints for how we live our lives in the future.

Dates: Wednesday, February 3rd - Thursday, February 18th
Venue: Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, 4th Floor, The Stage #4

Introducing Japanese aesthetics through the sensibility of Hisako Namekata
Through her sensibility, Namekata will convey the Japanese aesthetic sense of "inheriting from the artist and making it your own with each use," through her work on tableware made using traditional techniques from ancient times and kintsugi (gold repair).

Examples of participating artists and shops *In no particular order
Kaikado: Handmade tea caddies that combine function and beauty. Founded in 1875, the company's manufacturing methods have remained unchanged for over 100 years, and they are committed to making each tea caddy by hand. Tea caddies will be for sale, and tea caddies from approximately 100 years ago that have aged over the years will be on display.

Bunsho Kiln: Bunsho Kiln in Saga Prefecture strives to create uniquely Bunsho Kiln-style pottery by inheriting traditional techniques and embracing the spirit of the potters who created porcelain in Japan 400 years ago. While using the same Izumiyama pottery stone as early Imari ware, their works also incorporate modern beauty. This time, we will be selling pieces that have not been seen for a long time.

Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi Lacquerware: Kintsugi is a uniquely Japanese restoration technique passed down since the Muromachi period. Kintsugi does not simply erase damage, but embraces it as part of history and creates a new harmony. We will be selling a "Kintsugi Coffret" from Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi Lacquerware, founded in Kyoto in 1909.

Other pieces for sale include those by Akihiro Nikaido, keicondo, Ryuji Iwasaki, Masayuki Miyagi, and Wataru Hatano.
