Family and useful art that transforms everyday objects into ceramics.
Yaoita Katsunori is a ceramic artist who specializes in transforming everyday items we see into ceramics. We will be showcasing a number of works that incorporate perspectives not often seen in ceramic motifs, including his signature works such as the book, hut, and frill series.

▲Book (6 sheets) 66,000 yen (tax included)
This is a book-shaped object made by connecting Yaoita Katsunori's signature note-shaped ceramic works, which also serve as the title of this event, with rings.

▲Shed Series From 77,000 yen (tax included)
These are ceramic models of the sheds that the company has been making for over 10 years. They are somehow nostalgic and adorable, and exude the strength and kindness of the sheds that have always stood there, undeterred by the wind and rain.

▲ Frill Series (Left: Frill Cup, Middle: Frill Soba Choko, Right: Frill Bowl)
The motifs of the design details of collars and plackets on clothes are incorporated into the pottery, making this an extremely popular series due to its cuteness.
A gift of chance!? These artistic works are made using a technique that Yaoita invented on his own.
The unique look of Yaoita's works is an original technique that he discovered by chance while creating them. When several types of colored engobe are applied in layers and allowed to dry, the engobebe shrinks, causing cracks and the surface color to peel off. The colors painted underneath and the scratched-in lines of the drawings become apparent, allowing you to enjoy a unique texture.

Three Recommended Items from Isetan Mart Buyers

▲Note (Small) (Approx. 13.5cm long x 9.5cm wide x 2cm high) 6,600 yen each (tax included)
A ceramic object in the shape of a torn note. It's fascinating to see how even ordinary everyday objects look different when viewed through Yaoita's filter. Available in three sizes - large, medium and small - they can be hung on the wall as an object or placed on a table and used as a tray.

▲Colored Mug (Wide) (Size: Diameter approx. 9.3-10cm, Width including handle approx. 15cm, Height approx. 6.5-8cm) 6,600 yen each (tax included)
This mug is the result of a unique sensibility in every respect - the color, painting, shape and texture. The large handle fits comfortably in the hand and is also practical.

▲ Frill Cup (Size: Diameter approx. 8cm x Height approx. 8cm) From 5,500 yen each (tax included)
The frilled design and plump, rounded shape are adorable. This item is great for serving drinks, as well as desserts and side dishes.
A conversation between Yaoita Katsunori and a buyer is currently available on the special online site.
A video of the conversation, which gives a glimpse into the true face of Yaoita Katsunori, a ceramic artist living in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, whose style Isetan Mart buyer Watanabe Shun fell in love with at first sight, is now available.

Last spring, I came across Yaoita's work in front of a certain store and, intrigued, did some research, and came across some notebook-shaped objects and mugs that he had created in the past, and was completely captivated by their sensibility. We spoke to Yaoita about the thoughts that lie at the heart of his creativity.
