Isetan Mitsukoshi will be a promotional partner for the Setouchi Triennale 2016, a contemporary art festival set on the beautiful islands of the Seto Inland Sea, which begins on March 20th.
The Setouchi Triennale is an annual art festival held in the Seto Inland Sea. It promotes the charms of the Setouchi region to the world through contemporary art that makes use of the islands' traditional culture and beautiful nature. This third edition will be held in three parts: March 20th to April 17th, July 18th to September 4th, and October 8th to November 6th.
The exhibition, a collaboration with Isetan Mitsukoshi, will also be held in three parts to coincide with the Setouchi Triennale: March 30th to April 12th, August 10th to 22nd (planned), and October 19th to November 1st (planned). The event will be held in various formats at venues including Isetan Shinjuku, Mitsukoshi Nihombashi, Mitsukoshi Ginza, and Takamatsu Mitsukoshi.
In conjunction with this, Isetan Shinjuku will host "SETOUCHI ART@ Isetan Shinjuku" from March 30th to April 12th. Based on the theme of "Sea Mandala" proposed by Setouchi Triennale general director Fram Kitagawa, works by 11 artists, including contemporary artists and filmmakers from Japan and abroad, will be exhibited in the store's show windows and in the atrium on the first floor of the main building.
In addition, "Hana Hiraku," an exhibition by Genichiro Inokuma, one of the participating artists in the Setouchi Triennale and creator of Mitsukoshi's "Hana Hiraku" wrapping paper, will be held at Mitsukoshi Nihombashi from March 30th to April 5th, and at Takamatsu Mitsukoshi from March 29th to April 11th.
The Takamatsu Mitsukoshi department store in Takamatsu, the gateway to the Setouchi Triennale, will also be hosting the "Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art 25th Anniversary Exhibition" from April 5th to 10th.
