An exhibition featuring Genichiro Inokuma's wrapping paper "Hana Hiraku" will be held at Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi

Mar 16, 2016

From March 30th to April 5th, the Central Hall of Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store will host "Genichiro Inokuma and 'Hanahiraku'," an exhibition featuring Genichiro Inokuma, the creator of Mitsukoshi's "Hanahiraku" wrapping paper.

The exhibition is being held as part of a collaboration between Isetan Mitsukoshi and the Setouchi Triennale 2016, a contemporary art festival held on the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, as Genichiro Inokuma was born and raised in Kagawa Prefecture.

In addition, from March 30th, various items featuring the design of "Hanahiraku," the original wrapping paper designed by Genichiro Inokuma in 1950, shortly after the war, and which continues to be loved today as the face of Mitsukoshi, will be on display at all 14 Mitsukoshi stores nationwide (items on display will vary at each store). The lineup featuring the Hana Hiraku pattern includes Edo Komon stole by Hirose Dyeing Factory, T-shirts with the Hana Hiraku motif as a focal point on the chest, and mineral water in paired brick bottles with the Hana Hiraku pattern. This is an opportunity to enjoy Hana Hiraku, which has become integrated into everyday life with its diverse expressions.
