Designer Greg Lauren, nephew of Ralph Lauren, opened his first Japan-only boutique at SUPER dot MARKET (3-17-2 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo) in Omotesando, Tokyo, on March 19th. A reception party was held on the 18th, marking Greg's first visit to Japan. Fans enjoyed a night surrounded by Greg, who unveiled his luxurious collection, which could be described as "luxuriously shabby," using repurposed parts, as well as the fixtures and furniture imported from the United States for the store's opening. The entire SUPER dot MARKET store, including all items, fixtures, and furniture, was transformed into the brand's unique look, and an army tent, the same one Greg used for his New York Fashion Week show, was set up inside. The first floor showcased the SS16 collection, while the second floor showcased the AW16-17 collection, with advance orders now being accepted. Since his debut at Barneys New York in 2011 and at the New York Collection in 2014, his collection has been available in select shops and department stores in Japan, but this marks the first time that his full men's and women's collections have been displayed simultaneously. Greg himself said with a beaming smile, "I'm truly surprised to be able to have a store like this in Japan, and I'm truly grateful to the Tomorrowland staff for perfectly realizing the space I requested in such a short space of time." He also created drawings of the collection at the request of fans in a tent brought over from the US. His calm and detailed explanations of vintage military materials and the key features of the patchwork hinted at the star designer's popularity in the US. Details of the limited-time store's opening period have yet to be decided, but it is expected to run until around May. Text: Tatsuya Noda
