On March 8th, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim's Kenzo Autumn/Winter 2016-17 collection was shown at Salle Wagram in Paris. The collection evoked the image of a carefree, free-spirited woman with a sense of adventure and exploration. With oversized shoulders and a rich color palette, the collection evoked the 1980s. Inspired by the Japanese anime "Sailor Moon," the collection incorporated bold, feminine styles, while incorporating the Empire line of the First French Empire, which served as the main silhouette for outerwear, blouses, and dresses. Elements of smocking, ruffles, and pleats were added to create a more decorative effect. The duffle coat, in particular, was a central piece in the collection, accentuated by animal print faux fur and jacquard fabrics.
Other items featured include authentic and classic utility wear such as denim jackets and pea coats, with twists added such as sailor collars and fur collars. A set consisting of a jacquard bolero with a Napoleonic tiger motif and an empire dress with a dandelion floral motif is a symbolic look this season, with each motif unearthed from the archives. Additionally, patchwork dresses made from different materials, a specialty of the brand, have a psychedelic impression this season with the overlapping of motifs.
