Dolce & Gabbana's limited edition eyewear pays homage to Sicilian tradition

Mar 22, 2016

Dolce & Gabbana will release the "Sicilian Carretto Eyewear Collection" in late March.

The collection pays homage to the traditional crafts of Sicily. It features motifs of "Pupi," a traditional puppet show starring medieval knights and women, and "Carretto Siciliano," a style characterized by its vibrant, richly colored carriages and wheels.

The wooden temple model (86,000 yen) features relief decorations on a white and blue striped pattern and is available in four colors: black, blue, white, and orange. The temples are hand-painted by artisans, just like the antique carriages.

The cat-eye silhouette model (36,000 yen), inspired by the 1950s, is made of metal and acetate. Two types are available: one with a callet pattern on the entire outside of the frame, and one with a callet pattern on the inside. Colors include black, red, and yellow. A large, glamorous square model (27,000 yen) has also been released. This model also makes bold use of the callet pattern, creating a gorgeous piece of eyewear, and colors include black and banana.
