ITOCHU Corporation and Nifty Corporation, with ITOCHU as the exclusive distributor, have begun selling "Skype Credit" to @nifty members.

"Skype Credit" is a prepaid electronic currency that allows users to use paid features of Microsoft's free calling software, Skype. Using "Skype Credit" allows users to access a wide range of features, including calls to landlines and mobile phones, sending SMS messages, and accessing over one million Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide.

Since October 2008, ITOCHU Corporation has been selling "Skype Credit" in coupon format at multimedia kiosks in major convenience stores. With this latest initiative, @nifty members can purchase "Skype Credit" on the dedicated service page "@nifty x Skype" and pay with their @nifty ID. Payments can be conveniently combined with monthly @nifty usage fees. Corporate members can also receive invoices.

"Skype Credit" is available in five denominations: 500 yen, 1000 yen, 2000 yen, 3000 yen, and 5000 yen. "Skype" can be said to be the originator of free calling software, and according to the company's announcement, it has 280 million monthly users, with peak users reaching 40 million. In Japan, rival software such as "LINE" and "KAKAO TALK" are gaining momentum, but from a global perspective, they still lag behind "Skype."

On the other hand, @nifty is a long-established internet provider that has been providing services since the days of PC communications. It boasts a total membership of 11.45 million (as of the end of December 2012).
