A photo exhibition by actor and creator Iura Arata, "The Sky is Dawn, Dusk," is currently being held at the Hakone Open-Air Museum's Main Gallery in Kanagawa Prefecture. The exhibition runs until Sunday, March 3, 2013. This photography-focused art space celebrates the publication of Iura's 2013 calendar, featuring his photographs, and showcases his work. The exhibition features works that he has been collecting as his life's work, landscapes of the museum he photographed for the calendar, and newly created works capturing the nature, culture, climate, and history of Hakone. The exhibition is divided into three sections: the first floor, mezzanine, and second floor of the Main Gallery. The first floor features a colorful array of works, including Iura's "New Mount Fuji Series," works depicting Hakone's festivals and nature, and a large-scale piece that takes up the entire floor. The mezzanine floor is a completely different world, a monochrome world, with works made with washi paper, such as Odawara lanterns, creating a space that evokes a sense of Japanese culture. The second floor, based on the concept of a "cinema," features documentary footage of the shoot leading up to the exhibition and a slideshow of the artist's own photographs. This marks the Hakone Open-Air Museum's first "cinema." Iura gained popularity in the 1990s as a fashion model under the name "ARATA" and is currently appearing in numerous films and TV dramas as an actor. He is also a fashion designer and photographer. He served as director of the fashion brand "ELNEST CREATIVE ACTIVITY," where he designed items focused on domestic production and the preservation of traditional Japanese crafts. He also became known for his work in incorporating Japanese traditions into modern times, such as photographing Japan's nature and traditional culture as his life's work. He has been a regular in the films of director Koji Wakamatsu, who passed away last October, since 2008. In 2012, he changed his stage name from ARATA to his real name, Arata Iura, for the film "November 25th: The Day of Suicide: Yukio Mishima and the Young People," directed by Wakamatsu.
